This is the second Global School-based Student Health Survey to be ever conducted in Cook Islands, the first one being in 2010.
The 2015 Cook Islands GSHS was a school-based survey of students in Years 8-13, which are typically attended by students aged 13-17. A two-stage cluster sample design was used to produce data representative of all students in Years 8-13 in Cook Islands. At the first stage, all schools were selected to participate. At the second stage, all classes were selected to participate and all students were eligible to participate.

The dataset, which is publically available, has been provided by the Word Health Organization (WHO).
The Statistics for Development Divison (Pacific Community) has only created a few labels on the dataset for the purpose of this documentation.
STUDENT: Alcohol use, dietary behaviours, drug use, hygiene, mental health, physical activity, protective factors, sexual behaviours, tobacco use, violence and unintentional injury.
National coverage: At the first stage, all schools were selected to participate. At the second stage, all classes were selected to participate and all students were eligible to participate.
The survey covered students in Years 8-13 or Forms 2 to 7.
These students were mostly aged between 13 and 17 years old. However, some of the respondents were younger than 13 years old and others older than 17 years.

Not applicable as all students from Forms 2 to 7 participated to this census survey.
The school response rate was 100%, the student response rate was 65%, and the overall response rate was 65%.
The questionnaire addressed the following areas: respondent demographics; alcohol and other drug use; Body Mass Index (BMI) and dietary behaviors; hygiene-related behaviors; mental health issues; physical activity; protective factors; HIV infection knowledge; tobacco use; and violence and unintentional injury. Survey procedures were designed to protect 7 students' privacy by allowing for anonymous and confidential participation.
The questionnaire, published in English were administered to each student.

Students completed the self-administered questionnaire during one classroom period and recorded their responses directly on a computer-scannable answer sheet.
