Other Household Survey [hh/oth]
The 2010-2011 Employment and Unemployment Survey is the second EUS household survey to be undertaken by the Household unit of the Fiji Bureau of Statistics. The previous survey took place in 2004-2005 while the third and last one up-to-date was in 2015-2016.
The 2010-2011 Survey on Employment and Unemployment is intended to be part of a regular on-going exercise to obtain comprehensive national data on employment and unemployment that is not normally obtained through the Bureau's Annual Employment Survey, which tends to focus on formal sector employment.
The survey contains information on employment, unemployment, under-employment conditions, urban/rural disaggregation of employment, gender disaggregation, and other social disaggretation like ethnicity, age, industries and occupations.
Additional information includes subjects like: income, hours and days worked, major activities, industries, occupations, qualifications, mode of transport, distance traveled, and time taken to reach the place of employment.
This is the second time that a Bureau Survey on Employment contains data on time spent on household chores, as well as a large amount of information on numbers and categories of economically inactive persons in the country.

The survey included all householders in conventional dwellings distributed in localities within the urban and rural sectors of the four administrative divisions namely Central, Eastern, Western, and Northern.
The target population were Fiji Citizens and permit holders in conventional dwelling excluding those found in households of non-Fiji citizens, hospitals, prisons, hotels, temporary construction sites, boarding schools and similar institutions.
A sampling frame was constructed using the count of conventional households gathered from the listing stage and information gathered from updates to EAs identified to have had significant changes in household numbers.
This sample, including a reserve pool, was drawn from a list of households in the EA stratified by household size and ethnicity.
From the list of households collected, a stratified random sample of households was identified as enumerators to administer the main questionnaire.
The questionnaire is in English and is divided into 8 blocks:
-Block 1: Demographic Particulars and Economic Status
-Block 2: Economic Activities Last 12 Months
-Block 3: Economic Activities Last 7 Days
-Block 4: Unemployment
-Block 5: In-house Migration Particulars
-Block 6: Educational Atainment of All Household Members aged 6-17 Answering 'NO" to 1.7
-Block 7: Income from Own Account Activity in Agriculture, Fishing, Forestry , Handicrafts, Manufacturing, Retail, etc.
-Block 8: Housing Particulars
